Tuolumne County Pictures and Photos ..
Tuolumne Sunshine Mine , is located in one of the deepest, darkest, most remote areas in the Sierra Nevada mountains, miles beyond the last outpost of civilization. In a region of lost and abandoned mines, lost and abandoned dreams. Everywhere are the rusty relics of the 1849 California Gold Rush when hundreds of miners were digging and blasting on this mountain.
Now part of the National Forest, these remote mining areas have layed forgotten for many years. It is not unusual to find gold where gold has been found in the past. The mountain is so steep that we have to use ropes to get to the mine entrances that are hidden in dense tall brush. It's a great adventure exploring and finding these old hard rock mines on this mountain, and very interesting sometimes. The local black bears cruise by occasionally, and deer and eagles.
