The forest trees are abundant at the Ice Box Mine
Ice Box Mine was originally an old trench mine operated by the early Spanish Padres with manpower provided by local Mi-Wok Indians prior to 1849 . An Arrastra was located nearby on the Yancy Ranch where ore was processed. The diggings continue south for about 1.5 miles , over one hill and then down to the South Fork Stanislaus River.
This part of the old diggings is still visible as it runs North to South over the hill and down to the north side of the river , the forest on the south side of the river is owned by De Beers Group.........
